Sally Marie Alvarado passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at her home in Port Hueneme. Her son Paul and daughter Lisa were at her side. Born September 26, 1936 in El Rio to Jose and Leonor Padilla, she was the 9th in a family of eleven children.
Sally worked for the El Rio School District where she tested students’ English language proficiency, helping hundreds of children to increase their English language abilities.
Sally was an accomplished artist, winning a number of ribbons for her porcelain dolls at the Ventura County Fair. She was well known for her paintings, sewing and needlepoint. After viewing an exhibit at The Getty on Roman era mosaics, she made, painted and fired her own tiles to create a beautiful swan mosaic. Her children routinely won first prize in the Halloween parade for the costumes she created. She crocheted caps for the premature infants in the neonatal ICU at a local hospital. There seemed to be no limits to her creativity.

She was proceeded in death by her sons Andrew Padilla and Matthew Alvarado; daughter-in-law Kay Alvarado; siblings Carmen Ayala, Aurora Aguirre, Frank Garcia, Fidel Olague, Joe Padilla, Virginia Lopez, Elvira “Vera” Vegas, and Easther Jimenez.
